About SwordBurst 2:

A Chinese classic. Interesting story with its twists, tragedy, likable characters and often funny dialogues/scenes. The sound and visuals are a bit dated, but they put in a lot effort to make them sound and look good. There is no voice acting except for some screams at crucial moments and some shouting during battles. These battle shouts liven up the otherwise tedious battles and also make the characters come to life. I liked Anu’s “Yaaaaa” in particular, and the fact that you get a slightly more energetic shout when the character is about to do a critical hit. I think it’s very unfortunate that they removed this limited but valuable voice acting in the subsequent titles. The animations are also very lifelike and subtle. I still remember the moments when Yueru, with her arms bound behind her back, looked back in the corner of her eye at Xiaoyao as he was being beaten. Also, they have successfully used sound and animation to create physical comedy, e.g. being hit on the head with a frying pan by your Chinese Auntie. The only real problem I had with this game is that the last boss is much more difficult than the previous boss fights, so I skipped it after dying 3 times and watched the ending from someone else’s playthrough. The game is only available in Chinese, but there are solutions available for that if you look for it.
